P-1 Artists and Athletes Visas
The P-1 visa is issued to a person who performs as an athlete, individually or as a part of a group or team at "an internationally recognized level of performance," or a person who performs with or is an integral or essential part of an entertainment group that has been recognized internationally as being outstanding in the discipline for a sustained and substantial period of time, and has had a sustained and substantial relationship with the group over a period of at least one year.

To obtain a P-1 visa, the foreign national must have someone such as an agent or employer, submit a related petition to the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. This petition usually contains information such as affidavits, contracts, awards, and similar documentation reflecting the nature of the person's achievements where the work has been performed. Also attached should be materials verifying the recognition or extraordinary ability or achievement of the performer including his or hers recognition, ability, as well as the credentials of the author of the affidavit and how s/he came about this knowledge.

If you need assistance with the P-1 application process, please consult an attorney. If you would like Thomas Bassett and Associates to be your attorney, please contact us. We would be delighted to be of service to you.
