Thomas A. Bassett is the founding partner of the law firm Thomas Bassett and Associates, PLC. Mr. Bassett has been involved in immigration matters for over 30 years.

Thomas Bassett began his professional career in the immigration field in 1970. At that time he was Director of International Student Affairs for North Dakota State University. In 1972, Mr. Bassett moved to Michigan to join the International Student Services Office at Western Michigan University. In 1977 Mr. Bassett accepted a position as Senior International Counselor at Wayne State University. He was quickly promoted to Director of the International Services Office at Wayne State in 1979.

Mr. Bassett obtained his law degree while working at Wayne State and joined the law firm of English and Van Horne, P.C. in 1985. He founded the law firm of Thomas Bassett and Associates in 1991.

Mr. Bassett's excellent credentials and knowledge of immigration law was recognized by his peers when he was elected Chair of the Michigan Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association; a position he held from 1995 until 1997, when he decided to concentrate solely on his law practice. He is currently a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the Michigan Bar Association, and the Oakland County Bar Association. He serves as a mentor with AILA in the areas of Adjustment of Status, Exchange Visitors and Students, and the Detroit INS District Office Procedures. Mr. Bassett has been a member or NAFSA: Association of International Educators since 1970.

Mr. Bassett holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees from North Dakota State University and his Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University School of Law. Throughout his more than 30 years experience (14 in higher education and 16 years in private immigration law practice), Mr. Bassett has been involved in a broad range of immigration matters facilitating international exchange and international relocation and migration. Mr. Bassett has been a frequent lecturer and contributing author in the Immigration Law Field. He has unparalled expertise in immigration law and procedure.
