The Diversity Lottery (DV-2006)
Immigrant Visa Program
The Diversity Lottery (DV-) Immigrant Visa Program
(Also known as the Visa Lottery) was created in order to
allow natives of certain countries to immigrate to the
United States despite the lack of immigration
sponsorship from either close family or a U.S. employer.
Qualifying applicants must also demonstrate that they
have at least a high school education or its equivalent
or, within five years preceding the date of application
for a visa, have two years work experience in an
occupation requiring at least two years training or
expertise. The purpose of this program is to insure the
diversity of immigrants to the United States,
particularly from countries who historically have low
immigration rates. Information and registration
instructions for the DV-2006 program can be found at
www.dvlottery.state.gov.
For the Fiscal Year 2006 DV Program, individuals
who are natives of the following countries (as defined
